Path of Exile 3.29.3 lets your build choose which extra dangers are worth more loot

Curse of the Allflame already asks players to assemble Charts and read a Voyage before diving in. Patch 3.29.3 adds another decision before departure: how much extra trouble is your build specifically equipped to get away with?

The answer now comes in the form of six Cursed Ducats. Path of Exile allows up to three of them to be socketed into the Voyage Planner at once. Each contributes stacking monster Toughness, Item Quantity and Item Rarity to Charts and Voyages, then adds a separate difficulty modifier on top.

The downside is the buildcrafting hook

Grinding Gear Games is unusually direct about the idea behind the system. Players are meant to pick the Ducat downsides that interfere with their character the least.

That turns defensive specialization into part of the farming decision. Two characters looking at the same set of options may have very different answers about which modifier is acceptable. The patch notes do not specify numerical values for the shared Toughness, Quantity and Rarity increases, so there is no official figure to attach to a fully stacked three-Ducat setup from those notes alone.

The important part is that the effects stack. Three sockets are available, and those additions sit alongside the existing Chart and Voyage modifiers rather than replacing them.

Velka opens the system

Defeating Velka awards the first Cursed Ducat. Anyone who had already completed that fight before 3.29.3 can collect the item from Valerie aboard The Sovereign instead of repeating the requirement.

Getting more Ducats has its own condition. Certain monsters and objects inside Charts and Voyages can provide subsequent ones while a Cursed Ducat is already socketed. You have to engage with the new difficulty layer to expand the pool available to you.

GGG also made the planner easier to read

A smaller change may save more time than it sounds. Holding Alt on keyboard or Left Trigger on controller now displays all twelve Border Modifiers in the Voyage Planning interface at once.

The Genteel's Ducat can also swap single-attribute modifiers on Small Cluster Jewels after 3.29.3. Elsewhere, enemy Mercenary versions of several skills had their damage lowered, including Frostbolt, Ice Nova, Flameblast, Fireball, Fireball of Impact and Rolling Magma.

Those changes arrive after GGG had already spent the opening weeks of Curse of the Allflame adjusting Charts and Voyages. The studio said shortly after launch that the activities needed to become more enticing and rewarding, with earlier patches changing rewards, progression and interface friction.

A new knob for an already complicated endgame

The Cursed Ducats do not simplify any of that. They deliberately add one more layer to optimise, but this one belongs to the player rather than the random layout of a Voyage.

Patch 3.29.3 allows a maximum of three Cursed Ducats in the Voyage Planner at the same time.
